The evidence in words

The verdict

For anxiety, CBD (Cannabidiol) earns evidence grade B (moderate effect, mixed consistency) — there is real evidence here. Higher doses

How it might work

It acts on multiple targets — serotonin 5-HT1A, TRPV1, and endocannabinoid tone — rather than the CB1 'high' receptor, giving anxiolytic and anticonvulsant effects.

How to use it

Consumer anxiety/sleep doses in studies are often higher than product labels suggest (tens to hundreds of mg). Start low, choose third-party-tested products with a COA, and separate from other medications.

Safety & cautions

Generally well tolerated (fatigue, diarrhea, appetite changes); high doses can raise liver enzymes. Clinically important: CBD inhibits CYP3A4/CYP2C19 and can raise levels of many drugs — check interactions before combining.

Bottom line

Proven for certain epilepsies; a reasonable, if unsettled, option for anxiety and sleep — if you buy tested product and respect the drug interactions.
