The evidence in words

What it is

Pantethine is a derivative of pantothenic acid (B5) used to improve cholesterol and triglycerides.

How it works

As a precursor to coenzyme A, it modulates lipid synthesis, lowering LDL and triglycerides and raising HDL.

What the evidence shows

Multiple trials show pantethine (~600–900 mg/day) modestly lowers LDL and triglycerides and raises HDL over weeks — a real, if small, lipid effect with good tolerability. Not a statin replacement.

Safety & interactions

Well tolerated; mild GI effects.

Bottom line

A genuinely lipid-active B5 derivative for modest LDL/triglyceride improvement. Reasonable adjunct; not a statin.
