2 at grade C — 2 graded rows

What is known

Each outcome with its grade (how strong the evidence is, A to D), the size of the effect where the entry records one, and how often studies agree.

What is uncertain

Read off the same rows as above. Nothing here is added that the entry does not itself record.

  • Thin evidence: Glycemic control / AGEs (grade C); Muscle buffering (grade C).

Interactions

Documented pairings with supplements and medicines. A medicine on this list is a conversation for whoever prescribes it.

Beta-alanine is the efficient muscle-carnosine precursor.

The evidence in words

What it is

Carnosine is a dipeptide (beta-alanine + histidine) concentrated in muscle and brain; muscle levels are usually raised via beta-alanine.

How it works

It buffers acid, chelates metals, and quenches advanced-glycation end-products (AGEs), the basis for anti-aging and metabolic interest.

What the evidence shows

Direct carnosine shows early signals for glycemic control, AGE reduction, and possibly autism behavior and cognition, but data are limited; for exercise, beta-alanine is the efficient precursor. Reasonable, unproven.

How to use it

500–1,000 mg/day for anti-glycation goals; beta-alanine for muscle buffering.

Safety & interactions

Well tolerated. Beta-Alanine — Beta-alanine is the efficient muscle-carnosine precursor.

Bottom line

For muscle buffering use beta-alanine; direct carnosine is an early-evidence anti-glycation play.

How it is used

As the entry records it, from the studies it summarises. Not a recommendation for you — doses that suit a trial population may not suit you.
